Music and Musicians - Dr. Peter S. Ruckman
The history of music from its heavenly origins down to today's earthly perversions. A unique examination of music in its various forms.
This work is a unique history of music from a Biblical perspective (AV 1611). All styles and periods of music are examined and evaluated from the word of God. Dr. Ruckman shows that music is a universal language with definite components (pitch, tone, duration, dynamics, timbre, etc.) that can convey a message regardless of lyrics. It was created by the same God who made the stars, planets, clouds, water, hills, magnetism, and atoms; but it was perverted by the Devil from its original purpose (the glorification of the Creator). This is a book on “music appreciation,” but it is not presented in the typical “tradesmen’s terminology” associated with such works. In this book, the author opens for the Bible-believing Christian the vast resources of instrumental music that can qualify as “spiritual” (see Col. 3:16). This comes from over fifty years of experience in music (both listening and playing), Christians, and the church. In the contemporary setting of church music made to appeal to the flesh of the believer, this book is a must-read.
